Yes I'm back with a update on pictures !!

Fat Freddy's Drop

last week a still had a birthday present left, and that was a ticket for the concert of New Zealand's finest; Fat Freddy's Drop !
Driving to 020 (A'dam) was already fun together with Essie, Kickel and Ed (congrats Ed and Esther with the little b-boy Sam !).
We had to make a stop for gas.
When we drove away from the gas station somebody else on the road flashed his lights and honked his horn so we stopped and see what the fuss was all about he pointed out to the side of the car.....were the hose was still attached to the car!!
(No Pics of that sorry).
Anyway we made it to the concert...FFD although I’m more familiar with their old album I enjoyed their new stuff very much.
I did not got the best pictures from the band but here they are enjoy !!

After a long long looong break I'm back ....again!
As I finally have my setup ready (at home)...I can blog more often and show you more photo's I recently been shooting.
So first of I want to show you some pictures of the 2009 North Sea Jazz Fest in Rotterdam...do I need to say more about the Festival ?
The NSJ Festival Started in The Hague and was there for years and years then recently moved to Rotterdam (sorry, The Hague !)
This was the second year that the NSJ in Rotterdam again a success in my book.

I checked a lot of artist and bands that were amazing to see (again)..

Dunya Festival

Every year on sunday May 31 we have this Festival called Dunya Festival.
Dunya exist now (I think) almost 9 years, which always had a strong program of bands that are upcoming....for instance I saw the WHOLE Wutangclan 8 years at this Festival when they were not to big and huge like they are now.
This year was THE FIRST TIME it did not rained, because it ALWAYS rains on Dunya Fest....it's like a curse....but on Sunday it seems the spell was broken and lot's of people showed up on this beautifull day.
I was mostly chillin with my brother Marly and Jewel and saw this band BIBI TANGA Born in Bangui, BIBI TANGA is attracted to groove in all its shapes. Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Sly Stone and also Fela, the TPOK Jazz of Franco in Kinshasa, the National Guinean Bembeya Jazz remain his references. All bodied in 2000 into his first album “Le vent qui souffle “ marked by his encounter with THE MALKA FAMILY and HIPI MUSIC label. “Yellow Gauze” album is marked by another encounter with LE PROFESSEUR INLASSABLE, another music junkie who started devoting himself to « a fundamental research », and it's been released by l'inlassable disQue. Le Professeur Inlassable released “Leçon Numéro Un (Lesson Number One)” on ICI D’AILLEUR label in 2004, a record that displays an obvious signature in terms of musical genre blending and organic ambiences( according to his myspace).

This is the Frontman of Bibi Tanga.

The other artist I saw is GMB one of Rotterdam finest upcoming artist (your going to hear a lot of this man believe me !!)

Since I love Dubstep and heard that SKREAM and BENGA was coming to my town, I put all meetings aside and I went.
I was out till late in the morning 6.00am (which is very rare).
Altough the Watt can not pump the sound up fully to feel those deep bass I still had a good time !

Saturday it was non other then one of my favorite Rap Heroes Dennis Cole aka Cherchez LaGhost aka IRONMAN TONY STARKS, but better known as GHOSTFACE(Killah) who was performing at the WATT! OOOEEEWEEEEH !! Ghostface one of my favorite member of the Wutangclan. GHOST performed for like 2hrs (with two members from the THEODORE UNIT and DJ J-LOVE) and something bringing hit after hit after hit (so many hits the combination made my eyes and ears bleed and cry at the same time...)The crowd wanted more and he gave some more until his voice could not handle no more, and he went into signing autographs. All these hits man so many......this man is a legend in my book for sure! At the end of the shows there was an afterparty with DCS & Off the Wall (dvdeejays). These guys kept me and others dancing like there's no tommorrow with some very nice old skool classic YO MTV Raps clips bringing me back in those days. Even J-LOVE loved it or was it the '' the drinks and the weed''that made him dance ...hmmmm....I think it's the combination we all have or had!! Hehehe...check the clip.

The afterparty of the expo was at Hotel Central with DJ's Marco+Orpheo (GENIUS FOR REAL HERE..)the room they spinned in was not filled, as everybody was in the nextdoor room smoking and drinking at the bar, but later on everybody got down and shaked their body including yours truly. Check them boys at work....

Yesterday I went to TENT (http://www.tentrotterdam.nl/)were currently the expo SOURCE MATERIAL is running....with work from our do-it-all girl Reineke Otten (http://www.reinekeotten.com/)....hmmmm come to think of it let's make this instent a GENIUS BLOG about Reineke Otten.
Shhhii.. I'm a genius by doing this !)

Reineke Otten is born in de Bilt, (I only know it because the important Dutch weather station and stuff is there.)Holland in 1979.
She did her study at the Design Academy in Eindhoven.
Her graduation project was about mapping skincolour worldwide(see it at TENT)....she also made a very intresting book called DAILY CHINA.
Well check the rest at her website if you want to know more about Reineke....and sorry guys she is already been taken by another genius...Victor Vroegindeweij (another Genius by the way but that's another torrie !)

As I discoverd by having your own blog, the thing is to keep updating your Blog with new and intresting things al the time.
I have tons of things I wanted to put on my blog, like the time me and my girl bought a new cabinet at IKEA (which is ALWAYS an advanture on it's own) which took me from 15.00 till 02.30 in the morning to assamble it.
Esther was preparing the food (the next day we were having a easterlunch for some of our friends)
Or the day I went to the WATT for the Band competion were my friends Le Marque played, and they WON it!! Gongratz boys !!(I did not had my camera with me also to document that)afterwards I went to Rotown to see Theophilus London

In my previous blog you could read about the Expo I was attending last weekend in Amsterdam, and that I mentioned one of my friends, Lok Jansen.
Well what can you say about Lok....He's is a Genius !
Lok Jansen is an illustrator and designer living and working in Tokyo, but currently is in Amsterdam/Rotterdam working here on some projects.

The way this man draws, paint or photographs is amazing.
When you look at one of his drawings it seems that it is not finished, (I almost want to put some extra lines on it hahaha...) but that is also what makes it so beautiful.

Two days Amsterdam; Expo, Bobbito and RichMedina !

This past weekend was an exciting one.
First I went to an exhibition (http://www.facebook.com/ext/share.php?sid=59883267685&h=hZaz6&u=JIRoW&ref=mf)
were two of my friends Lok Jansen en Jeroen Koolhaas(+Dre) had there work hanging there, both great artists (later more about them)!
Also the other works were impressive to.....
I think it's still there till the end of the month so hurry up and go check it !.
a good job done by the orga, Big UP!

After the Expo we went to the Bitterzoet (Bittersweet) to P.A.R.T.Y, which could not go wrong if you have Wix (already a veteran) and Bobbito (a legend) in the mix tearing the place up !
In all of this again I met with RichMedina (sorry Rich could not make it on Sunday !)
we seem to meet alot latley. but brother this time....HOLLA at ME aight (kinda kidding ;-)) !

Yeeeaah Boyyyeee !
PE in the house.

This concert was in the WATT also, now I consider myself old school if you have listen to Dough-E-Fresh "the Show" and try to performing it in the mirror at home, or rocked Roxanne Shante's "we came here tonight to get started....." on my high school, not even knowing the exact words but more the sounds (hahaha good old times..).
Or the time my brother came home with a computer box full of drum patterns...the Roland808.
Or B-Boying or Breaking in my friends cellar on the black and white carpet.
I could go on and on....
Not bragging here but I'm so glad I went through the whole (GOLDEN!)80's en 90's hip hop period because face it, today's MTV TMF hiphop mostly is wack.
Sure there's also good stuff coming out but you don't see it on the Tele or hear it on the radio..... so thank god for YouTube and MySpace !
Ehhh oyeah so PE...can't front on PE they are in there 40's 50's or so and they ROCKED the show for 2 and a half hour long.
They did the WHOLE "it takes a nation of millions to hold us back" album
Which hiphop band or group is still doing that nowadays...2.1/2 hrs....not many.
Everybody from my age (down and up) was loving it.I was jumping around like I was 16 again with every song (That's why most of the pictures are pretty bad out of focus so here's the ones that are slightly better but still crappy, sorry).
I've also lost a role of film with more pictures on it from the concert, I hope I will find it soon for the oldschool people who were there that I took a picture from I will let all of you know as soon as I found it (AleeRock) !!

There were in the WATT (http://www.watt-rotterdam.nl/) a couple weeks ago.
I never saw them performing LIVE so this was an good opportunity to see them and practice shooting some pictures with my analog camera.
After the show I was backstage hanging with EPMD taking some pictures, their one of the down-to-earth-guys I've met, really nice .

Peter Jeroense art Expo

Last Friday I was so happy that it was weekend again....you know that feeling like...yeeaaaaah weekend let's do this !!
After work I got a call from a friend (Niek, you will see him on the next genius series) saying that there would be an expo opening at the of Peter Jeroense MAMA gallery.
And I thought yeeaaaaah let's do this.... Expo Opening (at MAMA) usually that means looking at the art first....hmmm....hmmm...ahhha...uhuh??...Yes I like that one...or..well that looks like a dead rabbit or something like that,
which was/is not the case at all with Peter Jeroense art.
His drawings in pen and ink which then is printed on newspaper paper were very nice and interesting.

Villa Augustus

A week ago we (my two niece's Jewel and Zoe, Zoe's Mom, Zoe's friend Iris and Esther) went to this place in Holland called Dordrecht.
There is an old factory that is transformed into....well everything in one !
It's called Villa Augustus.
It's about 15 Min outside Rotterdam by car, you can also go by boat from Rotterdam, which is nicer to do.
Villa Augustus is/has a Hotel, Restaurant, Marketcafe and a garden (were the plant most of their own veggies and stuff).
A real recommendation if your planning to go somewehere out of Rotterdam.
Oyeah and if you going with kids...they won't get bored, at least Jewel, Zoe and Iris sure didn't.....
And we as well !

I have to tell you about my girlfriend (ofcourse or else she kicks my ass for not mentioning her in my blog !!)
Esther.
Esther runs her own catering company called Spek en Bonen(which means freely translated Bacon and Beans, which means in dutch something like "your in but not really..".
She loves to cook (and me...)
The fact that she can cook practically ANYTHING whether it's pie, pasta, rice dishes you name it she knows it, and if she doesn't know it she will !
And the best thing also is that everything is 99,8% biological so there you go !

I had a dream last night that I was in S-Africa in a lodge in the jungle.

Actually I was there in 2008 with my girlfriend who did a project there for three months (http://www.virusfreegeneration.com/).

We stayed for a couple of days at a place runned by this guy who called himself Mad Mike's (well if you give yourself that name your really MAD !).
But he was the nicest guy ever !

Yesyes,

It seems that in times like this, with the worldwide economy crisis you still need a (own) blog !
Everyone is doing it everyone has one.
I did not wanna left behind so....here it is bam...my blog simple called Greg !
I will try to do some update of (mostly) pictures or (s)torie's I've heard, or what I think you should know or that I want you to know.
But mostly it will be pictures with a short story.

My name is Gregory Vyent (35) born and raised (and trying to survive) in Rotterdam.
I been a skaterboarder since I was 14 years old, which influed me troughout my whole life.... attitude wise, musicalwise and thinking.
I have been into photography now for 4 years and the last 1 year more seriously.
Mostly I like to shoot black/white analog and for the quick shots I use digital.
I don't have a prefernce of what I shoot I just shoot ( my momma always told me to shoot first and ask questions later haha... )!

Well so far for the intro.
I'm just going to start and w'll see if you like it ( if people will even find or see my blog !)
