Dunya Festival

Every year on sunday May 31 we have this Festival called Dunya Festival.
Dunya exist now (I think) almost 9 years, which always had a strong program of bands that are upcoming....for instance I saw the WHOLE Wutangclan 8 years at this Festival when they were not to big and huge like they are now.
This year was THE FIRST TIME it did not rained, because it ALWAYS rains on Dunya Fest....it's like a curse....but on Sunday it seems the spell was broken and lot's of people showed up on this beautifull day.
I was mostly chillin with my brother Marly and Jewel and saw this band BIBI TANGA Born in Bangui, BIBI TANGA is attracted to groove in all its shapes. Curtis Mayfield, James Brown, Sly Stone and also Fela, the TPOK Jazz of Franco in Kinshasa, the National Guinean Bembeya Jazz remain his references. All bodied in 2000 into his first album “Le vent qui souffle “ marked by his encounter with THE MALKA FAMILY and HIPI MUSIC label. “Yellow Gauze” album is marked by another encounter with LE PROFESSEUR INLASSABLE, another music junkie who started devoting himself to « a fundamental research », and it's been released by l'inlassable disQue. Le Professeur Inlassable released “Leçon Numéro Un (Lesson Number One)” on ICI D’AILLEUR label in 2004, a record that displays an obvious signature in terms of musical genre blending and organic ambiences( according to his myspace).


This is the Frontman of Bibi Tanga.









The other artist I saw is GMB one of Rotterdam finest upcoming artist (your going to hear a lot of this man believe me !!)

Yesyes update !

Since I love Dubstep and heard that SKREAM and BENGA was coming to my town, I put all meetings aside and I went.
I was out till late in the morning 6.00am (which is very rare).
Altough the Watt can not pump the sound up fully to feel those deep bass I still had a good time !

Ghostfaccccceeee !

Saturday it was non other then one of my favorite Rap Heroes Dennis Cole aka Cherchez LaGhost aka IRONMAN TONY STARKS, but better known as GHOSTFACE(Killah) who was performing at the WATT! OOOEEEWEEEEH !! Ghostface one of my favorite member of the Wutangclan. GHOST performed for like 2hrs (with two members from the THEODORE UNIT and DJ J-LOVE) and something bringing hit after hit after hit (so many hits the combination made my eyes and ears bleed and cry at the same time...)The crowd wanted more and he gave some more until his voice could not handle no more, and he went into signing autographs. All these hits man so many......this man is a legend in my book for sure! At the end of the shows there was an afterparty with DCS & Off the Wall (dvdeejays). These guys kept me and others dancing like there's no tommorrow with some very nice old skool classic YO MTV Raps clips bringing me back in those days. Even J-LOVE loved it or was it the '' the drinks and the weed''that made him dance ...hmmmm....I think it's the combination we all have or had!! Hehehe...check the clip.

The afterparty of the expo was at Hotel Central with DJ's Marco+Orpheo (GENIUS FOR REAL HERE..)the room they spinned in was not filled, as everybody was in the nextdoor room smoking and drinking at the bar, but later on everybody got down and shaked their body including yours truly. Check them boys at work....

Yesterday I went to TENT (http://www.tentrotterdam.nl/)were currently the expo SOURCE MATERIAL is running....with work from our do-it-all girl Reineke Otten (http://www.reinekeotten.com/)....hmmmm come to think of it let's make this instent a GENIUS BLOG about Reineke Otten.
Shhhii.. I'm a genius by doing this !)

Reineke Otten is born in de Bilt, (I only know it because the important Dutch weather station and stuff is there.)Holland in 1979.
She did her study at the Design Academy in Eindhoven.
Her graduation project was about mapping skincolour worldwide(see it at TENT)....she also made a very intresting book called DAILY CHINA.
Well check the rest at her website if you want to know more about Reineke....and sorry guys she is already been taken by another genius...Victor Vroegindeweij (another Genius by the way but that's another torrie !)

As I discoverd by having your own blog, the thing is to keep updating your Blog with new and intresting things al the time.
I have tons of things I wanted to put on my blog, like the time me and my girl bought a new cabinet at IKEA (which is ALWAYS an advanture on it's own) which took me from 15.00 till 02.30 in the morning to assamble it.
Esther was preparing the food (the next day we were having a easterlunch for some of our friends)
Or the day I went to the WATT for the Band competion were my friends Le Marque played, and they WON it!! Gongratz boys !!(I did not had my camera with me also to document that)afterwards I went to Rotown to see Theophilus London

Genius at work (3)

In my previous blog you could read about the Expo I was attending last weekend in Amsterdam, and that I mentioned one of my friends, Lok Jansen.
Well what can you say about Lok....He's is a Genius !
Lok Jansen is an illustrator and designer living and working in Tokyo, but currently is in Amsterdam/Rotterdam working here on some projects.

The way this man draws, paint or photographs is amazing.
When you look at one of his drawings it seems that it is not finished, (I almost want to put some extra lines on it hahaha...) but that is also what makes it so beautiful.
